Happy Birthday To Our Nation, Our Blog And Our Youngest Farm Girl! It's been 7 years; 7 years since I started this blog. 7 years since the kids said a blog is better than long winded posts on face book. I love my kids. And so we entered the world of blogging. It was our daughter's 8th birthday and the 4th of July! Our little firecracker, as Nana called her. Spunky. Cute, Sugar and Spice (emphasis on the spice) And now she's turning 15. She's the youngest daughter of a 3rd generation farmer. She's named after her Grandfather's sister who lived next door. A ... View Post
Scrumptious Scones
Scrumptious Scones I discovered this recipe a few years ago. I have since modified it to make the perfect scrumptious scone! Deliciously buttery and fluffy, these scones are the perfect treat to enjoy with a steaming cup of coffee! Using the base of this buttermilk dough, one can be creative! I use white chocolate chips and dried cranberries with a dash of raw sugar on top. I also use Chocolate chips or Maple! It's a very versatile sconerecipe and one that will surely please a crowd! ... Why Do Things Feel So Weird?
It shouldn't feel weird. But it does. Easter isn't about anything but the cross. It's about a journey taken for the salvation of our souls. It's about a gift so great, all of creation is affected. Yet, here I sit. Thinking things feel weird. No church. No family gathering. Weird. How must it have felt that first Easter morning- When the sun peeked over the edge of the earth and the rays illuminated the land? The moment where you open your eyes and remember what has happened. The heaviness and ache. The first fluttering thought. The disciples and all the people had just ... View Post
The Deep Ache
The earth groaned as a young one fought. Battles we didn't know. And a family's life now forever changed. The ache is deep and once again a Community grieves. I wail and cry out for the mama's who bury their babies. What kind of burial will there be? How does one grieve in a Pandemic, when isolation is life giving? Or so we thought? I comfort my kids as they rail against another loss. I breathe deep and run to the only source of strength I have left. . . Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in ... View Post
A re-post on Community
I posted this 3-24-18. I'm missing these gatherings and sense of Community. Yet, there is something else happening. I hope we all notice and take note. We're being creative. There's a sense of slowness. Neighbors helping neighbors. A little more outward perspective is happening. I don't want to miss the lessons we need to learn in this time. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` March 24, 2018 Small town living. Another Year Around the Sun
It's been another year around the Sun for my farmer. It's hard to believe. These years seem to be just sailing by. Yet this year has been hard. The Joy Thief began to set up camp and we didn't catch it early enough. He's dug in his heels and my farmer fights each day to trust and wrestle. He rises each day before dawn. He tends to animals and details of farm life before most of us have fluttered awake. He never complains. Equipment breaks, the cold wind howls, milk prices drop, milk production drops; yet he perseveres. Every day. He loves his family and works to be at functions ... View Post
