I remember writing this post. The grief. The cold. I remember turning and catching the glimpse of the message in the leaves. I had almost missed it. Blinded by utter despair. Oh, that we do not despair. May we linger at the cross a little longer. Open our eyes wide to see. But may despair, never knock on our door. Giving Thanks for What the Almighty has Provided Day #24 of Thanksgiving
They came together. Two very different people groups. To celebrate the basic necessity of food. Giving thanks. . . to God; for the struggle, the abundance. There were no nationality lines drawn; they were transcended. The first Thanksgiving. May this day be about deep gratitude to God for his gracious provision. May we think on those today that walk in darkness. That live in fear. That have suffered much at the hands of a brutal government. May our thoughts remain focused on the One who will one day make all things right. Until that day, may we pray, go, serve, and be ... View Post
Thanksgiving; In Spite of the Grief Day #23 of Thankfulness
The fire. Coffee. The Quiet. The morning greets me well. I breathe deep the peace in these moments. For soon the farmhouse will come alive. Breakfast for 7. Preparations for Thanksgiving. Much, much to be done. This is the first Thanksgiving with out my dad. In 2013 I spent my first Thanksgiving without my mom and my son. Though the enemy of our souls would love to discourage and bring us down during a time of gratitude; we will stand; on the promises given by the Giver of Life. I have cherished memories of Thanksgiving at our Grandparents. A table stretched the length of the ... View Post
Day #22 of Thankfulness
The Season of Thanksgiving is drawing to a close. Soon to enter Advent. A Season of Waiting and Preparation. That we spend time before Advent in deep gratitude seems only fitting. A time to prepare our hearts to wait; spent time in gratitude. As I look for the gift in Thanksgiving. I am changed. I am hopeful. It is not easy. Aren't we as a people so easily frustrated. Grocery lines. Gas lines. Slow drivers. Drivers that drive too fast. Mistakes. Returns. All producing frustration and a lack of gratitude. How many of us say, "Oh, I am so excited that the line at the grocery ... View Post
Feeding My Soul Day #21 of Thankfulness
We gather together. Young and Old. To break bread. A Thanksgiving meal. Rows of tables. Rows of food. All brought together. The room hums with conversation. It is good to be together. My farmer, farm boy and Zach share their experience in Haiti. Gratitude to this body and others for their generosity. Enough funds raised to cover the entire trip. To God Be the Glory. We gather upstairs for a Hymn sing. Both the Organ and the piano. Songs chosen by the Congregants. So fun. Memories swirl of times with my Grandfather. Hymn Sings. His harmony. His faith. The sound of ... View Post
This Old Farm House Day #20 of Thankfulness
This old Farm House. With it's broken windows and peeling paint keeps us entertained. The farm boy and girls are fooling around; he slams the door; a little too hard. In the morning a rescue is made. The door is locked. So through the window and down the ladder the girls go. Surprise! We're ready for breakfast. Never a dull moment. I could go on and on about the things wrong here. Ceilings with water damage. Oh, how I long for them to be painted. Clutter. A fifty year old carpet, that I would love to remove. On and on the list goes. Until. I breathe deep. Take a look at ...
