Three years ago I wrote this post. As we step into the Season of Thanksgiving may you be encouraged by these truths. Will you join with me over the next 30 days giving Thanks and Praise? Even when the going is rough and your heart feels overwhelming grief? Will you take this walk with us? 3o Days of Thankfulness November 1, 2013 The Halloween festivities are over. The candy hidden away from other siblings. Clarissa is still out. I climb the stairs to kiss the girls goodnight. I linger at his door. I look around. How does it come to this? How can I be left ... Are You Really Ready?
They're building at the accident site. Someone has put a Quilt Show sign right in front of the pole. I am sure they have no idea that the heart of a 17 year old ceased to beat in that space. That the ground holds his blood. But the sacredness of that space is temporal. His spirit was gathered in a cloud and whisked to the holy of holy's. Reigning now with the King of all Kings. A life time is being lived while part of me still remains; there. She looks me in the eyes. This wise teenager. So different from the others. Sensitive. Stylish. Hard working. She leans over and says ... View Post
You Can Go – You Can Even Go, by Staying
It's raining. It's lightening. Folks are huddled under sheets of tin. Already bashed from the effects of Hurricane Matthew; they are weary. What can you do? I sense it in my farmers voice. I read between the lines in his texts. There's so much devastation. People are on the side of the road hollering for food. Trucks are being stopped and raided to take the food. There are road blocks. A broken people, in a broken nation; hurting. And even going seems like it's not enough. Why do the battered and broken keep receiving the blows? What should our response be? My farmer and ... 23 And Counting
23 years and counting. I love him just as much as I did back then. Different though. It was a story book wedding. I'd do it all over again. So much fun. Such a beautiful day. Look at the Farm Niece and the Oldest Farm girl! This year we're getting ready for Haiti. So much to do in precious little time. This is what love is. Going to a Nation in need. Heeding the call. Loving the other for their heart to go. We've walked through fire. We're still grieving the deep loss of our son. We're still believing that cancer is at bay. We're learning to dance to a different ... View Post
Hold on Haiti, They’re Coming
To Haiti, with love. We're gathering supplies. Making arrangements. Rearranging life; to go. Because that's what we're called to do. To go. Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Hold on Haiti. They're coming. With strong backs. Knees bent low. Hearts bursting. Suitcases brimming. They're coming to stand beside you. Where you feel discouraged. They will lift you up. You see, you can stand on your own. One day you will. You are strong Haiti. You just don't know it. We're here ... View Post
We Will Go Where He Leads
It's all over the news. The death of 5 teens. Tragic. Heart breaking. I relive the night of Elijah's death. My heart aches for these families. Friends. Relatives. So much loss. So much pain. It feels senseless and overwhelming. A hurricane bashes a tired nation. Presidential candidates mock the very fabric of our nation. The destruction wreaked by one car on an interstate. I close the door. I turn and walk out of my parents home. Possibly for the last time. I can not stop the sobs that wrack my body. So much loss. So much devastation. How can you be immune? How can you ... View Post
