I did a thing yesterday. Actually a few things. Different things. Different for me anyway. I cleared off this table. For me, this is a big deal. Surfaces tend to get cluttered here. There is always book work needing to be done. Checks to write. Money to move around. Balancing. Praying. Keep those plates spinning. Don't let them drop. Mail, letters, lists, calendars. All pile up. Then dinner time arrives and the piles are pushed to the end of the table or piled higher. Because dinner is a rush to get to the next thing. It is a daily battle. A vicious ... View Post
How Will You Make It Through
Do you ever wonder how you'll make it through? Really. Financially every thing is a mess. It's upside down and you can't make sense of it. You've lost a loved one and the pain is intense. You wonder how you'll make it through? You wake up and the sun is shining and you wonder how can that sun shine on a day like today? We've been there. More than once. Time after time wondering how this can be? How can the world still be spinning? We walk into the hospital laughing, holding hands. These trips are familiar. Almost 6 years. Daily for 13 weeks. Then once a month. Then every 3 ... View Post
He Rises Before Dawn
He rises before dawn. He does a days work before most of our eyes flutter open to greet the day. My farmer. Other's needs are always before his own. There are no sick days. Vacation days are far and few between. He perseveres; With a strength and resolve I admire. He's not perfect. No one is. He loves His God. He loves His Country. He loves His family. It's his birthday today. I praise God for the day he was born and the way he was raised. He's longing to slow down. A desire to read and play on the floor with his grandchildren. He longs for hikes and ... View Post
Snow! That White Stuff.
Snow! Lots of it too. Heavy, wet, white. A wonderland. The perfect back drop for Vermont's Maple Weekend! Sugar on Snow. A long walk to the Sugar House. Quintessential Vermont. Along with the beauty, this storm also brings much extra work. The mud, from the previous weeks thaw combined with the snow, leaves ruts and a disaster. Plowing is a muddy, rutty and just plain mess. My farmer spends hours plowing the barn driveway, then our drive way. We have Guests arriving to our Davis Farm Guest House , so that driveway needs work. I begin to make a soup. Ground sausage, onions ... View Post
Winter is Still Here
I multi task. I used to do that much better. Now. I am often distracted. Yet, here I am. Sauteing the Garlic and onions. They sizzle and pop. I stir another pot filled with savory chicken and rice soup. The kitchen warmth radiates on this cold morning. The day is expected to get warmer. A break from the brutal wind and harsh cold of this winter. We're knee deep in taxes. The farmhouse table oozing with files and statements. I dislike this month. Even though it is the shortest. For some reason it seems to crawl at a snails pace. Winter clutches with vengeance. The sun remains ... View Post
Just For A Moment
Just for a moment I am alone. I play one of my favorite cd's. It is quiet. And just for a moment I let my self remember. For a moment I am a mom of 6 again. Just for a moment. I let the tears fall as the quiet permeates my soul. These days have been so full. Teens laughing and filling our farmhouse table as our German daughter prepares to head back to her home country. College students home and visiting and it's been wonderful. But just for a moment they're all out. I cry the tears that have been on the surface for weeks. They fall Hot. Wet. This ebbing forward of ... View Post
