The branches are heavy laden. Snow fell most of the day. After school activities were cancelled. It was a virtual Winter Wonderland. With snow comes an added burden of work. Paths and driveways need to be plowed and shoveled. The weight of the snow can be treacherous to this old farm house. 3 times the house shook as the snow fell off the peaks onto the porch roof. The final blow cracking a main supporting beam that was already compromised. My farmer spent the rest of the afternoon shoveling snow off the roof and placing braces. He was late getting in again. . . Sometimes I ... View Post
Bonus Day, Day #24 of Thanksgiving
Bonus Day! The Saturday after Thanksgiving . On the farm the Holidays are just like any other day. The chores need to be done twice a day. There's milking, clean up chores, feeding and checking on animals. A holiday doesn't stop the work. But my farmer will try to get in a little earlier so it's a treat! A bonus Day! AND he will also try to get in a little earlier the day after Thanksgiving so we can begin to decorate this old farmhouse! The kids bicker and fight. The youngest farm girl is out of sorts. I wonder how we'll make it through. They holler and throw angry words out. The ... View Post

Coming Home, Day #16 of Thankfulness
She's coming home today! I can't wait. Our college girl has clinical and then will make the journey North. This is her last "Journey North" for Thanksgiving while in College. Where in the world did the time go? I drove to pick her up with a friend for the first year. So many day trips down and back. Now, she drives her own car, and next year, only God knows. She's coming home and I'm so excited. Her bed is freshly made with clean sheets. I'll vacuum and add a few special touches today. She has asthma pretty bad and our home is not the cleanest. I will spend much of today trying ... View Post
May We Finish Well, Day #15 of Thankfulness
A re-post from November 15, 2013, when the turmoil in our life was great, but God was greater. A time before we had placed our sons headstone. A time when the landscape was stark and bare, but God was doing an incredible work. His hand held us and guided us through. The landscape is anything but bare today. Snow covers the hills and the mountain. The cold is brutal. It caught us off guard. My farmer has struggled with keeping everything going. Yet, this is the life before us. He will work to accomplish all he can with the time he is given. He will finish his day well. That is his desire. That ... View Post
First Snow! 30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #14
First Snow! I pour my coffee and turn on the fire. It is then that I notice the quiet hush. The first snow. Flakes fall in slow, purposeful motion: As if they understand the beauty and wonder of the first snow. There isn't a sound. These moments. I hold them close. The wonder. I watch for a while. Snow laden branches. My mom loved the snow. She would call me with excitement in her voice. She loved the unmarked landscape. As kids she wouldn't let us brush the snow off the railings are walk on the lawn. She loved the beauty. I stand for a few more minutes thanking God for ... View Post
