There is still a hush over the farmhouse. The coffee is ready. A new day is on the horizon. The rain has fallen steadily in the night. So needed. My farmer's sister and family have been without water for over a month. I think on water as I take that first sip of hot coffee. Besides grieving the loss of her son, walking with cancer, praying for a miracle for her daughters heart; she now carries laundry to all her family. An offering. The little she has to offer. A soul weary from the trials of this world. We wash, dry and fold; offer the little back to her that we can. Her ... View Post
I’ve Veered Off the Path Day #3 of Thankfulness
Federal Inspections. They're nerve racking. They run between a few dates. You have to be ready. The field man comes ahead of time. He shows you areas of trouble. Areas that can be of concern. Shipping milk is our life. If we are shut down it would be disastrous. Things are so tight; there's no room for error. My farmer takes this all in stride. I stress. I am not a stresser. But lately I feel that way. Everything makes me jumpy or wigged out. The inspectors come. We pass with flying colors. A perfect score to be exact. I wish I had spent my time differently. Not so ... Hold on Haiti, They’re Coming
To Haiti, with love. We're gathering supplies. Making arrangements. Rearranging life; to go. Because that's what we're called to do. To go. Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Hold on Haiti. They're coming. With strong backs. Knees bent low. Hearts bursting. Suitcases brimming. They're coming to stand beside you. Where you feel discouraged. They will lift you up. You see, you can stand on your own. One day you will. You are strong Haiti. You just don't know it. We're here ... View Post
We Will Go Where He Leads
It's all over the news. The death of 5 teens. Tragic. Heart breaking. I relive the night of Elijah's death. My heart aches for these families. Friends. Relatives. So much loss. So much pain. It feels senseless and overwhelming. A hurricane bashes a tired nation. Presidential candidates mock the very fabric of our nation. The destruction wreaked by one car on an interstate. I close the door. I turn and walk out of my parents home. Possibly for the last time. I can not stop the sobs that wrack my body. So much loss. So much devastation. How can you be immune? How can you ... View Post
Walking Through- It Has to be Done
It never goes away you know. The ache. The missing. It's always there. Always. A piece of you. Your child. Gone. It never leaves me. Ever. I think about him all the time. I wonder what he'd be doing. How he would react to something. Yes. Life is ebbing forward. Time. All held in the palm of the hand of the One who called that time into space. We lost our nephew a year ago today. The heart wrenching loss. My farmer's youngest sister. Now a part of the exclusive club no one wants to join. A year since his kids have been wrapped in his loving embrace. Sometimes I can't ... Want to Celebrate? It’s Been a Year!
It's been a year! It's been a year since we officially hosted our first guest in our Davis Farm Guest House. Since then we have met some amazing new friends. Hosted folks from all over this country and the world! There have been times when we wondered if we should keep at it. There were no bookings. There seemed to be stretches of time when all seemed so silent. Success is not measured by the position one has reached in life, rather by the obstacles one overcomes while trying to succeed -Booker T Washington We have been reminded to pray. To remember that this is not our ... View Post
