Days of Thankfulness, Day #9, Menu Planning

9 Nov

Menu Planning. I am not a planner for the most part. I fly by the seat of my pants. Seriously. Until it comes to menu planning. I love it. I search for recipes. I try to cook a big meal sometime in the week and then create from that meal. We raise most of our own meat, so I have choices available and that makes it easier. This week I began planning the Thanksgiving menu. It's the same every year, yet I still enjoy the process. Yesterday I found LOCAL cranberries! I grew up in an area where cranberry bogs abound! My parents lived down the street from huge bogs. So to find fresh ... View Post

30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #8, What Does God Require From Us?

8 Nov

Milk prices are at an all time low. There is much talk about dairy not being able to rebound. Farms are going out of business at an alarming rate. It is not easy being a small business. Folks say they support small businesses yet, their actions show otherwise. Legal hoops, Environmental and Conservation practices, while we support most of them, often hurt us. What does God require from us?  We spin around and around as to how to cut back. How can we reduce expenses? We're still so far behind in chores and repairs to be done. We wonder how long do we come to the table and have this ... View Post

30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #7, A Cold Bedroom

7 Nov

While last night was anything from cold, this post from 5 years ago is still so true. Looking back is so important. Knowing where you have been reminds us of the power of God to carry us through. Posting again from the Archives today. From 11/07/13.  Theses words are still so true.  The more we surrender the more God is able to fill our weary souls. This journey is not about me. It is all about Him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posting from the archives ... 30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #4, Daylight Savings

4 Nov

Daylight Savings. In the Fall I feel as if I have won the lottery! In the Spring I feel like a train wreck. I love the extra hour in the Fall.  I used to just get up earlier on that morning and do something productive- to really show I gained an hour. Now I just snuggle back under the covers and sleep! On the farm we adjust the milking times for Daylight Savings. Last night we milked an hour earlier. This morning  my farmer woke up about a half an hour earlier to minimize the affect to the cows. He's like that. Cows first.   The cows need to be milked about 12 hours ... View Post

30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #2 This Practice

2 Nov

This practice forces me to name the gratitude- even when I don't feel it. I race through the house. A child to school, coffee with the farm boy, coffee with my farmer and coffee buddy, exchange student to the airport, me to an eye appointment. I am late to the eye appointment. 15 minutes late. I called. Left a message. I still went. I've waited for this appointment for months. It wasn't supposed to be until the week of Thanksgiving. They got me in early. And I get there and they tell me I'm too late. I had called. I wanted to yell at the lady. Do you know what I've been through ... View Post

The Anchor Holds

29 Jul

The day dawned.  I stood on the porch; not wanting to be awake.  Odd for me. The sun rose to meet me.  Much like a year ago.  The same sky.  The same God. The world just a little older.  The vastness of the Universe running through my mind.  How Great is our God.  Sing with me how great is our God.  (Chris Tomlin How Great is our God It's not because of what He's done, but because of who He is.  I can not fathom the why.  I need to live in the, "what now". There is a life time of living still to be ... View Post
