The God Who Sees Our Need, and Provides

25 Jul

He speaks of God's provision. Our Pastor. My mind drifts. (this is not uncommon) Abraham's willingness to listen; to do the hard things. Genesis 22 (Yes. The whole chapter. It is a nail biter) He brought his son. His beloved son to be sacrificed. His ONLY son. His prayed for son. Obedience. He didn't question God. Yet, when his son Isaac asked the question, "Hey, dad, where is the lamb for the sacrifice?" I am sure many things went flying through his thoughts. We don't know what those were. We only know what he said. "God, himself, will provide the lamb." God will provide ... View Post

The Thank You Notes That Were Never Sent

16 Jul

Thank you notes. I write them. Or I write them in my mind. I actually enjoy writing thank you notes. A must when I was growing up. Gratitude expressed through the Art of writing. A gift I enjoyed. Sending cards. Notes of encouragement. Never a burden. My desk is filled with piles of notes that I have written. But never sent. . . My college girls thank you notes from her High School Graduation are still in a pile in the cubby hole in the desk. Our oldest farm boy was in the process of writing thank you notes. He never finished. I still have the notes. Some I have passed on. ... View Post

Lessons From the Calves

10 Jul

The mama's and babies begin their journey to the barn. Just a few days old and those calves are strong and ready to move. It doesn't take them long to find their legs and explore. Yet they always know their mama. To her, they always return. Sometimes the calves need to be carried; the mama's follow. Seeking their Offspring. Today they walk; with their mama's, around their mama's. Flitting here and there. Yet always close. The journey never taking them very far from their source of strength . Why do we forget that lesson? Why do we attempt to live in our own strength? Prayer ... View Post

Being Dad isn’t Easy

18 Jun

My farmer rises before dawn each day. Every day. 7 days a week. 365 days a year. In his 37 years of running this place he's had limited time off.   A year or two of full time support has allowed him a vacation off the farm or a morning to sleep in. Recently family and friends have moved heaven and earth to help him get to Haiti to serve others.   He rarely complains. (that's why I am here) Being a dad and a farmer is hard work. The balance between the race of children growing and the needs on the farm can be great. Yet my farmer has worked to attend field ... View Post

It’s Just a Lacrosse Net. Really.

15 Jun

It's just a Lacrosse net. Really. 12 years of a net. Here in the yard. Evenings of tossing, throwing, yelling,  fighting. . . . A game introduced to us by the oldest farm girls High School flame. A man now -whom we love and adore. He brought Lacrosse to our family. He purchased tiny lacrosse sticks and tossed balls with those two farm boys. A love grew. Both boys played. So did the college girl. The High School flame brought over his net when he was finished with his High School lacrosse career. Such a great gift! That oldest farm boy bought a new net. He ... He Turns 18 Today

11 Jun

He came fast. A whirlwind. Right at milking time. The alarm went off when I had my first contraction. He somehow knew, his entrance must be quick. After the other two. . . this was a relief. 3:00 am  first contraction. 4:19 am we meet face to face. I enjoyed every minute. He was so easy. Happy. Caught right on to nursing. Took him everywhere. Born on a Friday morning; Went with me to school on Monday. Always busy. Finding something to build or tear apart. The world was his playground. His imagination; limitless. He now turns the age his brother never knew.  So ... View Post
