Light permeates darkness. Every time. The smallest spark, illuminates. It is the first Sunday in Advent. That Season of Preparation; Waiting, for the Incarnate. Advent Wreaths will be lit today. A circle. Never ending. 4 Candles representing the 4 Sundays prior to Christmas; the 5th candle, the Christ Candle, lit on Christmas morning. Light. Permeating the darkness. Symbol for all. Hope. The candle lit today represents Hope. Hope for all Nations. Frankly, we need hope. Not hope in a new administration. Not hope in government or currency. Hope in Jesus Christ. In ... View Post
Giving Thanks for What the Almighty has Provided Day #24 of Thanksgiving
They came together. Two very different people groups. To celebrate the basic necessity of food. Giving thanks. . . to God; for the struggle, the abundance. There were no nationality lines drawn; they were transcended. The first Thanksgiving. May this day be about deep gratitude to God for his gracious provision. May we think on those today that walk in darkness. That live in fear. That have suffered much at the hands of a brutal government. May our thoughts remain focused on the One who will one day make all things right. Until that day, may we pray, go, serve, and be ... View Post
This Old Farm House Day #20 of Thankfulness
This old Farm House. With it's broken windows and peeling paint keeps us entertained. The farm boy and girls are fooling around; he slams the door; a little too hard. In the morning a rescue is made. The door is locked. So through the window and down the ladder the girls go. Surprise! We're ready for breakfast. Never a dull moment. I could go on and on about the things wrong here. Ceilings with water damage. Oh, how I long for them to be painted. Clutter. A fifty year old carpet, that I would love to remove. On and on the list goes. Until. I breathe deep. Take a look at ... Day #19 of Thankfulness
Reaching to the archives this morning. When the grief was fresh and the season of gratitude upon us. When cancer reared it's ugly head. We stood on the only rock that matters. Strength and hope graced our every move. Such a firm foundation. Deep gratitude this morning for eyes to see how we were carried. May your day be rich and full today. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHEN THE WIND BLOWS AND THE HOUSE SHAKES. . . It’s Today! Day #18 of Thankfulness
Today's the day! (Clarissa and I on our way home for Thanksgiving 2015) The college girl comes home. I can't wait. We've been cleaning and vacuuming. She has really bad allergies and the farm boy's dog is a little much for her. Combined with the fact that cleaning is not my favorite task; the house makes her a mess! So, my farmer got us a new HEPA vacuum. The farm girls LOVE using it. Win, win for everyone! I've been baking and planning. I want everything to be perfect for her arrival home. I want to take care of her and drink copious amounts of coffee around that farmhouse ... View Post
Have You Been Recording Your Gratitude? Day #17 of Thankfulness
We've had a lot go wrong lately. It makes one weary and a little on edge. Waiting, so to speak for the next ax to fall. So when the good comes, sometimes it's hard to enjoy. Really. It can be work. Teaching yourself how to accept good. I know there are good things all around. We just need to look. Train ourselves to see the good. Each day reaching for gratitude. Ann Voskamp began this journey of Gratitude. Before I knew the intense grief of the loss of my mom, son, cancer, 2 dear friends and now my dad. I delved into this practice. Ann Voskamp challenged me to the core. “I want ... View Post
