When Life is Hard We Still Need to Give Thanks, 30 Days of Thankfulness Day 6

6 Nov

We lost two cows yesterday. When life is hard we still need give Thanks.   The sun peeked over the mountain. The snow melted.   Warmth permeated the air; almost Spring like. The seasons confused. The day turned out to be beautiful. Sunshine and warm air. There's still so many outside projects to get done. The weather is predicted to be nice all week. In the morning my farmer found one of the cows dead. Out of the blue. Another was not feeling well. The vet was called. And the beautiful day took a turn.  We purposefully began to give thanks to God. We named thanks for ... View Post

The Real Work We Need to Do, 30 Days of Thankfulness Day 5

5 Nov

There is work. Then there is the real stuff. The soul work. The stuff no one wants to dig into. I've been feeling crabby most of the week. I'm not sure why. My kids have been great. My farmer is wonderful. We've been playing Christmas music as the first snow fell. So, there's no reason to be crabby. Yet I could still feel the sharp edge to my words. The lack of patience with requests. Frustration with book work not completed. Feeling the tension between being ok with being distracted and the need to feel organized. The real work we need to do is hard.  It's stopping in those ... View Post

Distracted, Distraction, 30 Days of Thankfulness, Day 4

4 Nov

Distraction a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else. Distracted unable to concentrate because one's mind is preoccupied. Can you relate? Distracted, distraction. I feel like I'm distracted from my distraction sometimes. My kids are always telling me, "Mom, listen to me." "Look at me." And most of the time I feel like I'm trying so hard to focus on any one thing. I make lists, only to never complete them; Or lose them. Lists reminding me of how distracted I became. Off task. Unaccomplished. Distracted My home; a hodge podge of unfinished ... View Post

The Sound of Change, 30 Days of Thankfulness, Day 2

2 Nov

I hear them before I see them. The sound of change. Cattle trucks. The rumble. One. Two. Three. Four. A farmer up the road is selling one of his herds of cows. One of the three surviving dairy farms on our road. Now two. A sob catches in my throat. We were that farm last Spring.  We tried to sell. But the market was so bad, we couldn't get out. I call my farmer. I ask if he saw the trailers. He softly says yes. It is hard to be in an industry that you watch slowly die. It's painful. All those cows. Generations of working the land. Hauling rocks, smoothing out space for hay ... View Post

Quarantine – a Period of Isolation

24 Sep

Quarantine- a state, period, or place of isolation in which people or animals that have arrived from elsewhere or been exposed to infectious or contagious disease are placed. A time when some of the funniest videos I've ever seen have been posted. A time when the world has gone quiet. A time when families are spending more time together than ever before. A time when panic has caused a shortage on toilet paper. A time when America rises to the occasion. Quarantine. A time when businesses are making masks. A time when neighbors are checking on neighbors. A time when God was invited ... View Post

When You Miss Your Son

28 Jul

My farmer walked into church. I stayed at home. He picked up the drum seat and held it up. It is called a throne. He shared, with a shocked congregation,  that our beautiful red headed, blue eyed boy, now sat before the ultimate throne. His life ending abruptly. Without warning. No good byes. Finished. While we slept. We went to bed that Saturday evening with no idea we would have unexpected visitors in the early morning hours. Our beautiful son fell asleep at the wheel and met Jesus. He wasn't drinking or speeding. He had plans. He was living his best life. A girl ... View Post
