This Cute Little Bear

18 Dec

This cute little bear showed up on our doorstep on Christmas Eve. A week after my farmers mom met Jesus. Each one of the siblings received the same gift. A bear.   The perfect reminder of a wonderful woman. Teddy Bears lined her stairway. They nestled in nooks and crannies in her old farmhouse. They adorned coffee mugs. Mugs filled with steaming coffee as we sat around her farmhouse table. A teddy bear room decorated to appeal to every youngster to enter the room. And so this cute little bear resides in the parlor that was once hers. 6 of her grandchildren and countless ... View Post

Quarantine – a Period of Isolation

24 Sep

Quarantine- a state, period, or place of isolation in which people or animals that have arrived from elsewhere or been exposed to infectious or contagious disease are placed. A time when some of the funniest videos I've ever seen have been posted. A time when the world has gone quiet. A time when families are spending more time together than ever before. A time when panic has caused a shortage on toilet paper. A time when America rises to the occasion. Quarantine. A time when businesses are making masks. A time when neighbors are checking on neighbors. A time when God was invited ... View Post

Maybe God Thought America Needed A Reset?

18 Mar

Wow. It's all I can muster these days. Wow. I wonder how these days will go down in history? Will they be known as the days of selfishness and hoarding? Or will we be known for turning Panic to Peace? And Fear to Faith? Maybe America needed a reset? Will the news be filled with acts of kindness far beyond the scope of imagination? Or will we hear of greed and senseless acts of harm? As farmers, the day to day will continue. Animals need to be fed. Chores need to be done. A routine. A rhythm. A steady beat our oldest son seemed to thrive on. Our nation; our world is facing ... View Post

30 Days of Thankfulness Day #7 Music

7 Nov

Our family loves music. Different genres. Right now, we love Christmas Music! And before you go judgey,  judgey, we're Thankful for Christmas music and so many other things. Everyone in the family sings or plays an instrument or both. My farmer and I met while he was playing music. Most of our courtship involved music. Somewhere along the line that stopped for us. But our kids carry the torch. Music touches the soul; a healing balm, A universal language. It was years before I could touch the piano after Elijah died. Tears would flow as his drums sat in the corner. The silence ... View Post

30 Days of Thankfulness Day#6 Teach Them Well

6 Nov

I am trying to pray more than speak; listen more than share. The youngest a Freshman in High School. Her first school experience. She's advocating for herself. She's witty like her oldest brother. She has a zest for life that is unquenchable. Adventure: she's up for it. Driving an excavator or any equipment; she excels. I love watching her grow. Yet, with each step it's the last. The last freshman year. . . The last kid to learn to drive. I don't want to miss any of it. As a new born I held her longer. I tried hard to imprint on my mind that moment. Knowing ... View Post

Family, Day #18 of Thankfulness

18 Nov

Sometimes family dynamics can be overwhelming. We listen to our kids and try our best. Occasionally, it's not good enough. They're angry and upset about things they can not even understand. We had this day yesterday. It was rough. Emotional. I felt helpless. I want to fix all their worries and pains. Yet, I was part of the problem. Family. The college girl is so wise. She is calm and asks questions that allow an opening in a conversation. The other family members in the discussion work hard to share, to explain. There are tears. There was real. There was love. There was ... View Post
