The Richness of Seeing Day #5 of Thankfulness

5 Nov

The farm boy headed to bible study.  The dancer to class.  My farmer was still caring for his ladies.  So the youngest and I found we were alone.  She had been up since 3:30 a.m.  She wanted to snuggle.  Such a rare gift.  Knowing I love fixer, upper shows, she put on Netflix to the perfect choice.  One that the older daughter had shared  about on my wall just this day.  We snuggled. We watched.  Just the two of us.  While this journey of children being in  heaven and growing up and moving on is rough.  It's ... View Post

Our Selfish Desires Begin to Wane, as Clearer His Will Becomes

22 Oct

There is a fountain filled with blood Drawn from Emmanuel’s veins; And sinners plunged beneath that flood Lose all their guilty stains. Lose all their guilty stains, Lose all their guilty stains; And sinners plunged beneath that flood Lose all their guilty stains. I sit at the piano.  It's been so long.  My fingers feel funny on the keys. The framed saying from a friend, now residing with the King of Kings, rests stately on the top of the piano. I think of her.  The dying thief rejoiced to seeThat fountain in his day;And there have I, though vile as ... View Post

He Made Me Laugh

1 Oct

He made me laugh.  That second born son.  The one who shoulders the weight.  The future.  He made me laugh.  He loves Christmas. Always has.  Little sleep.  So excited.  A bundle of joy.  Energy.  Complying with my request, for a cup of coffee, before presents, on Christmas morning;  he will have one waiting. . . long before it is time to be awake.  Energy.  Sheer joy.  Over presents. Over a babe in a manger. Wonder.  Contagious.  And at 15 that joy is still there.  I walk into the dining ... View Post

Keep Our Wicks Trimmed And Burning

1 Aug

I stood in the field and watched.  Lanterns to remember. His classmates gathered together.  Remembering.  Prayers taking flight. Each lantern rose higher and higher.  Lights dotting the already starlit night.  I wanted to reach out and somewhere find him in the group.  I longed to see him. Missing him deeply.  Each lantern aglow, floating heavenward. Beauty.  Peace. As I gazed around, I wondered, how many know that soul searching peace? Two men, sons taken before them. Stepping together through the fiercest of times. We ... View Post

It’s The Receiving That Is So Hard

12 Jul

He's here.   A man who offered to pray for our family 1600 miles away.  He has connections and mutual friends here in the area.  He prayed.  During those long months of chemo and radiation and dense fog.  He prayed; for us.   When I could barely put a foot in front of the other.  He prayed.  He sent encouraging e-mails.  A stranger. Now friend.  Brothers and sisters in Christ.  He wanted to do something.  Something for us.  We didn't know what to say.  And now he's here.  How do you say anything when ... View Post

Betrayal And Thanks, In The Same Sentence

7 Jul

The house is so quiet. Our new family have settled in their home.  The past week and a half has been non stop crazy with 12 people under the same roof.  But it was community.  Learning to live with another.  Sharing chores.  Helping.  Bearing one another's load.  A practice long abandoned in the name of independence.  Families drifting apart.  Help seen as hindrance; dependence.  I enjoyed the help.  The common desire to serve our families. Pooling resources. Dinner cooked. More time. Laundry switched. I think if they had ... View Post
