My brother and his wife are coming for a visit. Now I have known they were coming. But it's not until the last minute that I decide to clean and make a plan. We are celebrating Christmas. I still haven't wrapped the presents. It's almost March. I have wrapped some; but the rest still lie buried under piles of stuff in my room. What makes us all so different? How do some have such ordered and clean homes? Everything is fixed and nice and neat. Everything in its place. ( My college room mate Carol, would continually ... View Post
Are You Able To Run The Race With Perseverance?
Miss you so much. Don't know if I can handle next year without you. #brother This was Clarissa's face book post on June 20, 2013. It's the picture of them on the first day of school; his Senior year. Elijah had gone on a trip the day after graduation. We all missed him. Boot camp was coming and we knew we weren't prepared. He rarely left home. His presence always here. He wasn't one for sleepovers; preferring his bed to others. Little did we know. Clarissa and Thomas have devotions for Youth Group. The topic; Perseverance. With the Olympics permeating much of our ... View Post
Do You Ever Wonder What We Are Doing Here?
Do you wonder sometimes what it all means? I sometimes wonder. What are we doing here? What is my purpose. All this pain and uncertainty. What do I do with it? What is the purpose for each of these weary steps. Yet, I am amazed at the lessons learned and the things for which I am thankful. My farmer's side effects have been minimal. It is early still and someone reminded us that it is all cumulative. Still, it has been minimal. Today. We are half way through the treatments. Maybe not half way through the side effects, but half ... View Post
The Only Light That Matters
We put up mom and dad's tree. Do I not say "mom's" anymore? This is so mom's home. Every inch of it. We all feel it. Without her here, it's not the same. We decorate the tree. The kids come to help. Funny how here, they willingly participate, while at home it's a battle. We finish with the angel; a little crooked. We need a ladder; but it's time to quit for the night. Everyone leaves and I put the kids to bed. I stand in front of the tree. The lights twinkling, illuminating the darkness. I remember years gone by. When I was young, our tree was always so beautiful. It was a delight for ... View Post
Sunday Praises. . . Day #10 of Thankfulness
It is Sunday Morning. My coffee is ready. I am heading to read God's Word. My source of encouragement This has been a week of waiting. A week that, really, has been filled with grace. I am grateful for the hugs and meals, visits and prayers. I am weary and torn. I want to see beauty from these ashes. As we continue to wait we will keep our eyes focused. We will continue to give thanks. Have you felt the difference in naming the things you are grateful for? It is a practice that I want to never forget. Day #10 of Thankfulness: I am thankful for: The beauty of Vermont The stark contrast ... View Post
Why Does God let Bad Things Happen
It seems so unreal. Each morning I wake through a fog. Hoping it isn't so. Hoping the circumstances have changed and the journey is different. But it is not. Commencement an act, instance, or time of commencing. A Beginning. This was the beginning of a new journey for Elijah. He and his classmates have dreams. They are a dedicated and wonderful group. Musical, smart, ambitious, eloquent speakers. They are the future; the next generation. But God allowed the unthinkable, the unimaginable to happen. Now we are a part of a new ... View Post
