Bonus Day! The Saturday after Thanksgiving . On the farm the Holidays are just like any other day. The chores need to be done twice a day. There's milking, clean up chores, feeding and checking on animals. A holiday doesn't stop the work. But my farmer will try to get in a little earlier so it's a treat! A bonus Day! I'm out of sorts. There was much that happened yesterday that left us feeling rather discouraged. . It's a slippery slope these days. There doesn't seem to be much in our industry to help us shake that feeling. We look for the good. We step into gratitude. But some days are just really awful. First Snow! I pour my coffee and turn on the fire. It is then that I notice the quiet hush. The first snow. Flakes fall in slow, purposeful motion: As if they understand the beauty and wonder of the first snow. There isn't a sound. These moments. I hold them close. The wonder. I watch for a while. Happy Birthday Marines! It's the birthday of the United States Marine Corps. It is also the night of many balls and celebrations across the country. A commitment. A desire to serve. Days of Thankfulness, Day #9, Menu Planning
Menu Planning. I am not a planner for the most part. I fly by the seat of my pants. Seriously. Until it comes to menu planning. I love it. I search for recipes. I try to cook a big meal sometime in the week and then create from that meal. We raise most of our own meat, so I have choices available and that makes it easier. 30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #2 This Practice
This practice forces me to name the gratitude- even when I don't feel it. I race through the house. A child to school, coffee with the farm boy, coffee with my farmer and coffee buddy, exchange student to the airport, me to an eye appointment. I am late to the eye appointment. 15 minutes late.
