I shut off the lights. It's been a long day. Yet, I linger here. Here, where the heady scent of pine transports me to days gone by. I'm drowsy. The shadows play in my mind. Funny how night and sleepiness will do that. A mystical balance between wakefulness and slumber. I breathe in. Peace and joy. A time when I wondered if I would ever feel anything ever again. Here. I sit. In the quietness. This tree a symbol of life; in the same spot my son lay before we laid him in the ground. Death and life so closely intertwined. Yet life wins. Death has been conquered. Will You Give on Giving Tuesday? Day #29 of Thankfulness
The smell of haylage lingers. The cows are content in the early morning. Their routine. Care given in the choice of feed. Optimum milk production crucial to our existence. Diligence in so many areas. A farmers work is never done. He toils and spins even while he sleeps. He gives continually. As my farmer cares and provides for his animals his heart lingers in another country. He ponders better ways. He seeks wisdom. He longs to be free to go, yet loves the land he has been given to steward. So we pray. Do we go from one mess to another? Today is Giving Tuesday. The ... Thanksgiving; In Spite of the Grief Day #23 of Thankfulness
The fire. Coffee. The Quiet. The morning greets me well. I breathe deep the peace in these moments. For soon the farmhouse will come alive. Breakfast for 7. Preparations for Thanksgiving. Much, much to be done. This is the first Thanksgiving with out my dad. In 2013 I spent my first Thanksgiving without my mom and my son. Though the enemy of our souls would love to discourage and bring us down during a time of gratitude; we will stand; on the promises given by the Giver of Life. I have cherished memories of Thanksgiving at our Grandparents. A table stretched the length of the ... View Post
Day #22 of Thankfulness
The Season of Thanksgiving is drawing to a close. Soon to enter Advent. A Season of Waiting and Preparation. That we spend time before Advent in deep gratitude seems only fitting. A time to prepare our hearts to wait; spent time in gratitude. As I look for the gift in Thanksgiving. I am changed. I am hopeful. It is not easy. Aren't we as a people so easily frustrated. Grocery lines. Gas lines. Slow drivers. Drivers that drive too fast. Mistakes. Returns. All producing frustration and a lack of gratitude. How many of us say, "Oh, I am so excited that the line at the grocery ... View Post
Day #19 of Thankfulness
Reaching to the archives this morning. When the grief was fresh and the season of gratitude upon us. When cancer reared it's ugly head. We stood on the only rock that matters. Strength and hope graced our every move. Such a firm foundation. Deep gratitude this morning for eyes to see how we were carried. May your day be rich and full today. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHEN THE WIND BLOWS AND THE HOUSE SHAKES. . . DAY #19 OF THANKFULNESS November 19, 2013 Some nights I think the wind will blow this old farmhouse right to the ... View Post
It’s Today! Day #18 of Thankfulness
Today's the day! (Clarissa and I on our way home for Thanksgiving 2015) The college girl comes home. I can't wait. We've been cleaning and vacuuming. She has really bad allergies and the farm boy's dog is a little much for her. Combined with the fact that cleaning is not my favorite task; the house makes her a mess! So, my farmer got us a new HEPA vacuum. The farm girls LOVE using it. Win, win for everyone! I've been baking and planning. I want everything to be perfect for her arrival home. I want to take care of her and drink copious amounts of coffee around that farmhouse ... View Post
