The weather is changing.
Turning.
I can feel it in the air.
A thin crispness, that wasn’t there before.
Summer turning to Fall.
The change is there.
I am not ready for the seasons to turn!
I feel like I haven’t had summer.
I have allowed way too many things to crowd our days and schedule.
Things I thought were good for the kids.
Yet here we are.
The College Girl is back at school, the Dancer Girl begins her High School career.
And I’m exhausted.
Why and how does this happen?
How do I allow myself to turn the Ordained into Stress.
How do I create days with no margin?
When will I ever learn?
Farm life is demanding enough.
Living in a community where there are no other farms is hard.
We fight a silent battle.
Our kids rise before the dawn.
They work each day.
Learning skills that we hope will take them far.
They are fiercely independent.
They can run this household if I am not available.
They have had to.
Church activities, social needs all vie for our time.
My farmer and I are taking stock.
Psalm 90:12
So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.
We want hearts of wisdom.
We don’t have the answers.
Not yet anyway.
We’re talking and praying and seeking God’s wisdom on how to do this life well.
We’re feeling tired and burdened.
We’re in need of hired help.
Yet, we want folks to work on the farm because they want to work together for good.
I’m edgy.
That clearly can not be good.
It is a constant need to seek each day the face of God.
Handing over to Him the reigns.
Leaving at the foot of the cross our burdens.
Then turning and walking, with purpose, to be the image bearers of Christ.
I don’t always represent Him well.
These days I am tired and I find myself not spending as much time in the Ancient Word.
I am distracted easily.
So we’re Fall cleaning.
Taking stock of where we are.
What needs to be done.
We’re turning towards God, Changing to be more like Him in all we do.
We broke bread with friends the other evening.
A practice I love; but have not had the time or the energy for. (Nor a working oven)
So we’re seeing that that is something we want to make time for.
As this season changes we too want to change.
Margins are thin with little help around the farm.
My farmer is stretched.
I need to open my eyes to see where I can serve more.
I know the blessings will come.
They do when we serve.
It is a beautiful thing.
God created us to serve.
He created us to do His work.
When we give of our time and resources something in us changes.
May you serve and be light to someone today.
There are so many opportunities to serve and give right now with fires and hurricanes bashing our country.
Do something today for someone else.
Something that might be outside your comfort zone.
Stretch yourself.
Pray for God’s wisdom.
We’re changing here on the Davis Farm.
