It’s Just A Couch

16 Aug

It's just a couch.  Stained with memories.  Babies.  Toddlers. Knowledge imparted through endless books.  Resting, while heavy with child.  It's just a couch.  Love poured out.  Knees bowed in prayer over young ones; pleading over their souls.  Years and years of devotions while the farm house slept.  Late night discussions debating all that life may present.  It's just a couch. Where 7 or 8 gathered for family night to watch a movie.  It was never too small. There was always room for ... View Post

My Useless Day

3 Jul

I have been useless. Sick in bed.  This does not usually happen.  We are mom's, we continue on, no matter how hard.  There was no way. I was too weak and shaky to get out of bed.  I was consumed with guilt.  We have guests.  This is my gift. This is what I love.  But between the heat, 8 kids, including a 2 year old.  I don't have it anymore.  Nope. That boundless energy is gone.  The desire.  Once I could go and go.  Making feasts and homemade goodies.  Now.  It is one step at a time.  Now the sweet ... View Post

The Things We Could Learn From A Farmer

3 Feb

It's the last day of radiation for my farmer. He needs some hydration after the treatment. He hasn't needed hydration at all except during treatment. How did they know he would need it now? I am so grateful. You can tell he needs it. He just perseveres. He never complains. He has been amazing through these treatments. There are so many lessons learned from the generations of farmers. If we all lived a little more like them, I think this world would be a much better place. I could be biased. I married one.  Here are some lessons I have learned in the last 24 years from my ... Each Milestone I Need To Turn To Praise

31 Jan

I didn't take any pictures.  It just didn't seem right.  Something was lacking and I could feel it.  But I wasn't going to give in.  For 18 years we have gone to the farm show.  As a family.  Every year we headed to breakfast at the "Wayside Diner". Sometimes we'd have a late lunch but usually it was breakfast.  The kids missed school and we would make a day of it.  We pushed strollers; heavy with jackets and snacks.  Some years we had a stroller, a back pack and a sling.   It was tradition and a respite in the middle of ... Remembering Well, Because We Can Never Forget

18 Dec

Her hands were strong; weathered through the years from dishes,  raising 5 children and many others who needed shelter in her home.  A home that was sprinkled with grace and joy. A home where all who entered became family.    She could refinish a piece of furniture or transform a room into a  space that invited all who entered.  She saw beauty in everything.  She could turn a run down house into a cozy home;  a bare piece of earth into a vibrant feast for the eyes.  The ground yielded to her touch, releasing ... A Farming Family. . . Day #16 of Thankfulness

16 Nov

This farm has been in Gary's family since the early 40's.  That is more than 70 years of history. I sometimes wonder what it was like back then.  What did Papa Cedric say to Grandma Davis when they bought this place? Papa Cedric never lived here. Taken too soon by a brain tumor. Grandma Effie forging a life without her beloved.  2 family members I never met.  2 family members our son rejoices with these days. The family started on the hill.  Where there was no electricity or plumbing. She birthed 7 children; a set of twins. (One of which ... View Post
