Finding Strength in Those Memories

18 Dec

When I close my eyes; memories swirl.
So much delight.
Joy;
In the midst of work.
I rest in those times.
Moments that have made me who I am.
Moments that have shaped my faith and choices in this journey.

Today marks the 15th Anniversary since my mother in laws passing.

Shirley on Cedric's birthday
A night etched in my memory.
So sudden.
My absolute best friend, role model, encourager and nurturer.
She was the glue that held so many of us together.

How I still long to hear her voice.
Ask her advice.
Sit at her farmhouse table drinking hot coffee, while wrestling with life questions.

Her strength spurs me on even today.
When I think of all she accomplished.
Oh, I fall so short of her capabilities.
But I love remembering how she persevered.
Her modeling of unwavering faith.
Even at the sudden death of her husband.
She persevered even when she wanted to give up.

It is these memories I choose to remember.
I let them wash over me in this drafty old farmhouse.

I gather my coffee and the Ancient Word.

I rest in the memories.
The gift of those years.
I cherish the lessons shared while working side by side.
Her life spoke her faith.
Her ways shared the gospel.

Colossians 1:9-11
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,
