The sun shines through the window.
It’s going to be a different kind of Thanksgiving.
Plans are being cancelled.
Travel discouraged.
A different kind of Thanksgiving.
The oven warms the kitchen as blueberry muffins bake and sausage fries.
A second pot of coffee is made and scrambled eggs wait to be poured into the piping hot cast iron.
I will set soup to simmer on the back burner and bread to rise.
A different kind of Thanksgiving.
Our church usually hosts a dinner on this night.
A gathering.
Fellowship.
Warmth.
Food.
And Praise.
Always praise.
Because that is the language our souls long to speak.
Thanksgiving.
But we’re not gathering.
A different kind of Thanksgiving.
And is it time to sacrifice the gathering for the praise?
In the quiet.
In the change.
We bow low.
We praise.
Even though we don’t feel like it.
Even though our hearts are heavy with the burden; The weight of all that is going on in our country.
A time to pray.
To stay on our knees a little longer.
Linger.
In prayer.
For our country.
A different kind of Thanksgiving.
One where we hold open our hands for the pouring in.
Where we hold the silence and purposefully wait.
Wait for the power that is not with in us, but in Him..
May this different kind of Thanksgiving bring you closer to God.
May hope rise within you and sing the songs of praise we were created to sing.
30 Days of Thankfulness

Autumn
I am thankful for:
The sunshine streaming though the window
Reminders of hope and joy
A different kind of Thanksgiving
Kids wrestling through this life clinging to the hope of Christ
The quiet in the parlor
God who is taking me through this time in my life with such grace
Solid truth in the Ancient Word
Greens in the window boxes my farmer made for me
