Bonus Day, Day #24 of Thanksgiving

24 Nov

Bonus Day!
The Saturday after Thanksgiving .
On the farm the Holidays are just like any other day.
The chores need to be done twice a day.
There’s milking, clean up chores, feeding and checking on animals.
A holiday doesn’t stop the work.
But my farmer will try to get in a little earlier so it’s a treat!
A bonus Day!

AND he will also try to get in a little earlier the day after Thanksgiving so we can begin to decorate this old farmhouse!

The kids bicker and fight.
The youngest farm girl is out of sorts.
I wonder how we’ll make it through.
They holler and throw angry words out.
The whole of me wonders if it’s worth it.
Why do we do this thing?
What has happened to my children?
I pour another cup of  coffee and try to find a quiet space.
I don’t want this bonus day ruined over decorating.

My farmer comes in and  saved the day!
All seven of them headed out!
I stayed behind.
I enjoyed the quiet.
I  made Pink Hot Chocolate to enjoy gathered round the tree!

The shenanigans of this group!

The out doors seems to have changed their moods.

We played Christmas music and our German Anna is appalled.
She thinks it’s too early.
I can’t get enough.

The season of Advent almost here.
How fitting to be followed by a season of Thanks and deep gratitude.
Each day I try to walk this journey in thankfulness.
It is work.
I default to complaining and longing for things to be different.
So, I work to name the gratitude.
I work to seek the joy.

I haven’t got it all figured out.

A bonus day.
The kids are still home.
It’s not Sunday yet.
So, it’s a day to slow down.
We’ll decorate more.
Serve a brunch to all the kids and the farmettes.

For a few minutes I relish the quiet and the strong smell of pine.
There’s more decorating to do and breakfast to cook.

May you find joy in the beginning of the Advent Season.
The wonder of a Child given.
Sent to us from above.

I am Thankful for:
Bonus Days
Twinkling lights
Family
Crazy children
Pink Hot Chocolate
White Christmas movie
My girls swooning over Bing
A house full of teens and more who stop in to say hi
The bickering and fighting that happened pre decorating to make the moment when they finally got along better
My farmer in and resting
A warm home
A God who will never let me go
