30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #8, What Does God Require From Us?

8 Nov

Milk prices are at an all time low.
There is much talk about dairy not being able to rebound.
Farms are going out of business at an alarming rate.
It is not easy being a small business.
Folks say they support small businesses yet, their actions show otherwise.
Legal hoops, Environmental and Conservation practices, while we support most of them, often hurt us.
What does God require from us?

We spin around and around as to how to cut back.
How can we reduce expenses?
We’re still so far behind in chores and repairs to be done.
We wonder how long do we come to the table and have this conversation.
What does God require from us?

This is all we know.
This is what we love.

God asks us to do hard things some times.
He will always lead us to something else.
We are seeking what that “something else” looks like.

Micah 6:8 says,
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

God requires us to act justly, to love mercy and to walk by His side.

The youngest farm girl heads out to help her father.
She needs a bit of fresh air and he needs a bit of help.
It’s a win, win.
The calf pasture is still not finished.
It’s been 5 years of working on that area.

This was the oldest farm boy and my farmers project.
Again and again, other things have come in the way of the completion of this area.
This moment though, there was time.

It’s too much to look at the big picture right now.
Jesus didn’t look to what he was going to suffer and dwell on the process.
He had work to do.
His focus was on you and me.
He dug in and got to work loving people.
Showing them the Way.
He showed us how to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God.

I don’t know what the future is here.
I have enough grace for today, and it all begins with a grateful heart.

Day #8 of Thankfulness

I am Thankful for:

A few hours of alone time
time in the Ancient Word
walking through a trial with a beloved relative
A God who knows the beginning and the end
projects being completed even if it’s not in my timing
beautiful splashes of golden sunshine on the fields
a warm day
naming gratitude
my kids as I watch them grow
the quiet of the morning and hot coffee
the mug my coffee is in from a college room mate
the little tasks that lead to the bigger picture
times when I don’t have the answers and it teaches me more of God’s character
our German exchange student and her sense of humor and the sound of her laugh
the ways God is continuing to grow me and never lets me go

Have you joined us on this gratitude journey?
Is it changing you?
Each year I am surprised by the change stepping into gratitude affects on me.

I heard this song the other.
I hope you can take some time to listen.
I wish my drummer boy were here to play this.
So many things I miss deeply.
But there is hope on the horizon.

I Belong
Tim Timmons
