30 Days of Thankfulness, Are You Naming Your Gratitude? Day#3

I read these words and wrote them in my journal on October 29, 2017.
In the early hours of October 30, 2017 we woke to roaring winds and a devastating wind storm.
This storm tore apart our 2 main dairy cow barns.


It twisted metal like as if it were a Twizzler.
(Halloween was Tuesday- candy is on my mind)

Since Monday folks have reached out, once again, to show love and support.
We have felt carried and encouraged.
Many have asked how they can help.
What can we do?

I love this about God’s people.
We are doers of God’s word.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

God has placed in our hearts a desire to serve and to do.
We see needs and we want to help.

We were able to have someone do their laundry at our home.
We were able to give someone a generator (sure he had to fix it first). . .

There’s just something about helping that is deep in our core.

As we have mentioned, we do not know what the plans are.
We do know who holds those plans and we are praying, making phone calls and seeking wisdom.

My farmer is so patient.
He listens with deep intent.
He matches everything up against his deep faith.
His lively hood is at risk.
I call him this morning to check in.


I ask him how he’s doing.
“I am content,” is his answer.
He has suffered devastating loss;
yet. . .
He is content. 

Philippians 4:12
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation,
whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Can you say with confidence, “I am content?”

Let’s try to journey there together. . .
Let’s start by naming our deep gratitude to God.
I promise you, you’ll begin a wonderful journey.
