They come from places far and near.
They come for business meetings and vacations; weddings and graduations.
Some come just to enjoy the farm.
We have created a space to withdraw and renew.
The Davis Farm Guest House.
3 bedrooms, a bath, kitchen, dining room and a living room.
A breath taking view of the meadow and mountain.
A porch-
For sitting.
For reading.
For reflecting.
For sipping large mugs of steaming hot coffee, or a cool, refreshing beverage.
For our Guests.
We set out scones and tea and coffee.
A small snack after a journey.
A welcome.
A home baked treat.
Made with love.
For our Guests.
Some we never see.
They check in and check out.
They rarely respond to a text.
It’s as if they were never there.
Others leave a mess and we’re shocked,
at the thought, they may live this way
,or treat others things in this manner.
But they are far and few between.
And then there are those that linger.
We see them sitting on the porch;
Absorbing the early morning rays as the sun peeks over the mountain.
Breathing in the heady smells of summer.
I wonder what they are letting go of?
I pray that their time here is refreshing.
Each time we make the beds and scrub the house we pray.
We long for families to gather around the farmhouse table for a home made dinner.
To reconnect.
A time to renew their spirit.
A gathering place.
They plan trips to breweries and wineries.
They hike mountains and trails.
So much to explore in this beautiful state.
Sometimes we are blessed with a visit and inquiring minds about our life style.
Inquisitive adults and children wanting to milk a cow or feed a calf.
Intrigued by the rhythms of farm life they rise before dawn and slip into the ebb and flow of the routine.
The youngest farm girl shares her life, in snippets, to shocked guests as she shares her schedule of rising hours before dawn.
My patient farmer answers questions while steadfastly keeping the forward motion of chores going-
Handing off a broom to push up feed, or coaxing a baby to drink from the bottle, encouraging the guest to give it a try.
It’s been 5 years since we embarked on this journey-
Wondering how it would be to welcome Guests to the farm.
And so we have invited them in.
Some have accepted the invitation to walk some part of our journey with us.
We hope we have helped to make this world a better place.
We pray that those that have lingered will return.
Our Guests.
30 Days of Thankfulness
I am Thankful for
A daughter who surprises me with a coffee at Dunkin’
Hot coffee in my cup
Welcoming Guests to our Guest House
My friend who helps me clean
Creating a space for folks to refresh
These chilly mornings
Medicine to help my farmer feel better
Teens and their willingness to dig in to the hard things
the frost on the ground in the early morning
rays peeking over the mountain as a new day begins
hope for a new day
grace to make my way through the day
Mercy that I do not deserve
a much needed visit with a cousin coming up
heat in the house
