My Dad- A Repost From Last Year

8 Sep

A re-post from last year. He's be 75 today. -------------------------------------------------   He'd be 74 today. My dad. His birthday so close to his first grandchild. Today. They celebrate together. In heaven.  Life has been full here. School starting. College girl back to school. The oldest farm girl leaving those sweet farmettes to impart knowledge on the next generation. The farm boy restless again. Searching. Stretching. The younger two growing. Blossoming. Here I am in this sea of emotions. Swept along. Washing clothes, planning meals, doing ... View Post

In his 37 years of running this place he's had limited time off.   A year or two of full time support has allowed him a vacation off the farm or a morning to sleep in. Showing up to surprise me.  Fishing trips.  Last minute Christmas shopping for mom.  Drinks and hot dog night at the Yacht Club Planning moms surprise 40th birthday party.  Talking on the boat as we listened to ... Chin Up, Shoulders Straight. . .Advice From My Dad

3 Mar

Chin up Shoulders straight  Fly right My father's advice through the years.  There were many other colorful pieces of advice he would share that I won't mention here.  But these. These have stayed with me.  I don't know where he got this.  His father died when he was 12. So I am not thinking it was fatherly wisdom.  My dad is a man of few words.  (not always appropriate either, insert wink) Now he is a man who has the memory thief as a constant companion.  But he spoke these words to me often enough that they have stuck.  This morning ...
