Snow! That White Stuff.

24 Mar

Snow!
Lots of it too.
Heavy, wet, white.

A wonderland.
The perfect back drop for Vermont’s Maple Weekend!
Sugar on Snow.
A long walk to the Sugar House.
Quintessential Vermont.

Along with the beauty, this storm also brings much extra work.
The mud, from the previous weeks thaw combined with the snow, leaves ruts and a disaster.
Plowing is a muddy, rutty and just  plain mess.
My farmer spends hours plowing the barn driveway, then our drive way.
We have Guests arriving to our Davis Farm Guest House  , so that driveway needs work.

I begin to make a soup.
Ground sausage, onions and spices.
Soon the farmhouse smells delicious.

I watch the snow continue to fall.
It will soon stop.
This snow is different than winter snow.
There is a lightness about.
The birds have begun their Spring dance.
The air has a newness lingering.
Spring really is right around the corner.
This week will be warmer.
The sun is predicted to shine!

So often my heart feels dark and dreary like this day.
I let the weight of others problems, money, and so many other things steal my joy.
My focus shifts inward and I become ultra focused on my problems, my needs.

I am reminded to shift my thoughts.
Think on the One who gave all, once. . . for all.

Set our mind, not on earthly things.

Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Setting our minds makes such a difference.
God has created us to serve him; to bring honor and glory to His name.
What peace this brings.
What incredible freedom is known.
When we shift our thoughts to things above, the hard and the difficult change.

Phillipians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

We often can’t change our circumstances-but we can change what we think about.

As we continue in Lent, take on the practice of setting our minds on things above.
Dwell on things that are just and pure.

The sun has come up.
The birds have begun their chatter.
I have a mug of hot coffee and a lighter attitude.

May your thoughts and minds be lighter today.
May you take long walks and spend time with family.
May God meet you where you are.
May you feel his presence in a new and glorious way.
