A song. A memory. Hope. It brings you back. To a moment; in time. I can see it clearly. My mom always had music playing. As a child we listened to music for Spring Cleaning, different music for regular cleaning. Music for a Sunday, music when the Holidays were upon us. All embedded in my memory. I now have my mom's stereo. A turntable, radio, cd player combination. As I cook dinner. . .as we get ready to send the college girl off , I hear a song. For a moment I am in my mom's house. I can smell, the smell of her clean home, I can hear the music, For a moment. It passes as ... View Post
Hot Coffee and Cooler Weather
It's happened. Days without the humidity! Hot coffee. Cooler weather. Sunshine. A light breeze. Oh my. Coffee tastes so good in this weather. I notice the trees. I straighten the porch swing. Maybe a few days without rain will keep it dry enough to be able to swing. Someday we'll replace the tin roof that leaks. Someday. For now. I will just cherish this stretch of cooler weather. I will sip my Hot Coffee and breathe. Hay is down. We're so short on hay. It's been a horrible year for us. I'm not stepping into fear. I don't know what the future holds; but I know who ... The Last Day
The Last Day. . . I snapped this picture on July 27, 2013. The college girl and youngest farm boy were headed to a week of camp. That oldest farm boy leaned in the car window and hugged his brother. I captured the moment. Little did I know it would be a gift. It was the Last day those boys would see each other. A week later I returned to pick up those kids from camp. That youngest farm boy headed straight for the fields. His restless being and love for farming propelled him to jump right in. The oldest farm boy had gone off on a shoot with a friend and his dad. My farmer headed ... View Post
Lessons From the Calves
The mama's and babies begin their journey to the barn. Just a few days old and those calves are strong and ready to move. It doesn't take them long to find their legs and explore. Yet they always know their mama. To her, they always return. Sometimes the calves need to be carried; the mama's follow. Seeking their Offspring. Today they walk; with their mama's, around their mama's. Flitting here and there. Yet always close. The journey never taking them very far from their source of strength . Why do we forget that lesson? Why do we attempt to live in our own strength? Prayer ... View Post
Fourth of July Baby!
She liven's up a room. Her eyes twinkle when she smiles. She's passionate and caring. She was born on the fourth of July. She's the youngest of six. She has a will like iron. She's my daughter. A gift. A treasure. When God sent her to us, He knew I would need this spit fire. I would need the challenge to keep going. To get up to care for her needs. To laugh at her antics. To dig for patience over her daily melt downs. When grief becomes your companion there are dark, dark days. Even with the King of Kings is on the throne. Even when the promise of Eternal life ... A Time of Refreshing
The summer sky is unpredictable these days. The angry heavens pour down their wrath day after day. Haying is nearly impossible. Fields; sodden. Water gathers in the basement and swirls in the river. Yesterday and today there is a break in the pattern. The sun shines. Humidity; flees. We withdraw to our Happy place. Sun reflects off the fast, flowing river. The wind rustles the branches of the stately willow. This. This moment in time is refreshing. I try to hold on. I memorize the sounds and the feeling.| The youngest crawls onto my lap. She curls tightly in a ... View Post
