It shouldn't feel weird. But it does. Easter isn't about anything but the cross. It's about a journey taken for the salvation of our souls. It's about a gift so great, all of creation is affected. Yet, here I sit. Thinking things feel weird. No church. No family gathering. Weird. How must it have felt that first Easter morning- When the sun peeked over the edge of the earth and the rays illuminated the land? The moment where you open your eyes and remember what has happened. The heaviness and ache. The first fluttering thought. The disciples and all the people had just ... View Post
What is Joy Anyway?
What is Joy anyway? Really? There are song lyrics. Joy to the World. . . . I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. . . Joyful, joyful, We Adore thee. . . Almond Joy. Joy-a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. Rick Warren adds his own definition: “Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright, and the determined choice to praise God in every situation.” While I agree with most of those definitions. I don't find that everything is going to be 'all right.' In ... View Post
30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #30 The Clean Up
The clean up. It's always hard for me. I can't seem to get the last dish put away or have it all completed. A life long struggle. Somehow the laundry is never truly finished. There's an extra sock, or a shirt that belongs to no one. I get distracted. The Clean up. No matter the year we usually transition right into Advent the day after Thanksgiving. This year Thanksgiving is so late Advent begins tomorrow. I am struggling to get rid of the piles and finish cooking down the turkey. I want to make soup and save the stock. But I can't find my big pot! The pot I just used to make ... View Post
30 Days of Thanksgiving, Day #27 This Old Farmhouse
The list was long. I had mapped out how each task was to be accomplished. I have been doing this for 26 years! Cooking Thanksgiving dinner is fun, and I love it. I love flinging these farmhouse doors open wide. I love gathering around the farmhouse table with no room to spare. (and of course there's always room for one more! Always!) But it takes planning. Last week had been hard. I hadn't felt well and other circumstances put me quite far behind. Today was going to be my day to rise above and conquer the gap! With breakfast made and finished. I threw out my first request of my ... View Post
30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #25 Looking Back So You Can Go Forward
Sometimes there is a need for looking back, so you can go forward. God continually reminded the Israelites to set markers to remind them of their journey. I Samuel 7:12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer,[a] saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”As I read through my Thankful journey over the past 6 years I am so encouraged. Looking back paints a picture. Seeing how God has guided us; how he never let us go, strengthens my spirit. It has also served to remind me of how much has happened. The first picture in this post from ... View Post
30 Days of Thankfulness, Day #22, Mudroom Madness
Mudroom Madness. Coats, hats, jackets, boots, shoes and more shoes. Spilling over and into the walk way. It's an epidemic. I bought baskets to place under the bench; Hoping to cut down on the sheer visual over whelming when you walk in. Those baskets are full and the floor still remains littered with apparel. Madness! Mudroom madness. Jackets can't make it to the hooks. I trip. I stumble over shoes, boots, more shoes. I almost spill my coffee. A mess. Clutter. Chaos. My farmer has been known to throw boots and shoes right out the back door! I scan Instagram. The mudrooms ... View Post
