It’s raining.
Again.
I don’t want to complain.
We needed rain desperately this summer.
Our pastures were dry.
We were not nearly able to get all the hay we needed for the winter.
We are needing to purchase a lot of feed.
This combined with low milk prices discourages us.
Why do we keep doing what we’re doing?
And now, it’s raining. . . again.
It is early morning.
The farmhouse is still quiet.
The sound of the rain on the tin roof is still beautiful music.
It’s a little too cool to sit on the swing.
I missed that this summer.
Nights when it’s raining.
Thunder showers.
Porch swinging.
It’s chilly and raining.
Everything is muddy, wet and bleak.
It makes work a little difficult.
Our coffee buddy is racing against time to get his barn fixed.
We have much to do to prepare for winter.
When it’s raining it makes it difficult.
Yet, God in his infinite wisdom knows what we need.
The rain, the snow, the sunshine.
Even in these things he is present.
Matthew 6:26
Look at the birds of the air;
they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not much more valuable than they?
The waiting while God is working is a difficult task.
We often don’t see what He is doing or how he is working.
When things have been hard for a long time we push back; we want out.
I am encouraged to stay in the waters.
We need to press on; to keep on, keeping on.
Phillipian 3:14
I press on toward the goal to win the prize
for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Our son quoted this verse in his Senior Testimony.
It has become an anthem for me.
Little did he know he had just over 40 days left on this earth when he spoke those words.
This verse, as so many in the Ancient Word, gives a promises.
We’re pressing on, towards something.
Toward heaven.
What a gift.
What a beautiful thing.
Despite our circumstances we press on.
Even when it’s raining.
Even when the sun shines gloriously.
We press on in the strength of the One who calls us by name.
